Visit Ober Gatlinburg For Winter Fun

If you are staying in the Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge area of the Smoky Mountains then you may want to know about one of the more popular attractions during the winter time. That would be Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park. Ober Gatlinburg opened for this Winter’s ski season on December 6th but it does stay open year round offering fun for the whole family. The ski season closes some time in early march. During the summer months an alpine slide runs along the side of one of the ski trails as well as many other attractions that stay open year round.

During the winter though is the most active time at this fun attraction as Ober Gatlinburgis transformed into a snowy paradise featuring ice skating in the enclosed mall, shopping, an amusement center with lots of games for the kids including bumper cars, mini golf and more, a restaurant and lounge and of course snow skiing and snowboarding featuring 7 different trails from beginner to advanced and a soon to be completed snow tubing section. As of this post however, there are delays due to recent rain.

If you are planning on skiing while in Gatlinburg this winter, please make sure you check out the ski report so you know which slopes are open. Of course when conditions are right, the snow making machines crank up and start to cover the slopes. Snow can be made on 5 of the 7 ski trails. Many times just the upper portions of some of the trails will be open, so be sure to check the report.

During ski season there are 2 sessions daily, one in the morning and afternoon and one in the evening. The session hours are 9am to 4pm and the evening session is from 3pm to 10pm. Tickets are on sale for each session from 1 hour till start time till 2 hours before session end time. You can either drive up to the ski resort via roads or ride the Aerial Tramway from downtown Gatlinburg for an additional cost.

Rates vary depending on how many sessions you want for the day and whether or not you need equipment and or the all important lessons. Check the current rate card here. You can also get season passes at a great discount if you plan on visiting frequently and group rates are available as well.

Enjoy your vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains by spending some of it at the fun winter ski resort of Ober Gatlinburg!
