Titanic Exhibit & Museum Planned For Pigeon Forge

Movie fans and history buffs of the infamous Titanic will have a new attraction to visit sometime in early spring of 2010 in downtown Pigeon Forge. The new attraction will be built to resemble the glorious “unsinkable” cruise ship in all its grandeur that now unfortunately rests at the bottom of the ocean in the North Atlantic.

Titanic Pigeon Forge as the attraction is aptly named will be built with direct access right off the Pigeon Forge Parkway at a cost of approximately $25 million and will feature artifacts from the Titanic itself in some of its 20 galleries on the 2 deck 30,000 square foot structure that will be half the size of the original. The treasures from the Titanic are not taken from the modern day wreckage site though. They were recovered during rescue efforts and were what passengers took from the ship as it sank. Many of the artifacts have never been on display to the public before.

The museum/attraction will also feature none other than an exact replica of the Grand Staircase and a first class and third class cabin. The actual feel and tragedy of the Titanic sinking will also be available for visitors to experience when they can experience what 28 degree water feels like, touch an iceberg and climb into a lifeboat.

The new attraction to Pigeon Forge Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg area will be built on a 5+ acre site near the Black Bear Jamboree on the northern end of the Pigeon Forge Parkway. Touring the museum will be self guided and should take approximately 90 minutes. Not only will Titanic Pigeon Forge be a museum for families to enjoy its creators say that it will also serve as a monument to the 2,208 passenger who sailed the ship on its fateful voyage.

Wonder what the cost will be? My daughter will turn 13 and wanted to go there for her birthday.
