The mega travel portal TripAdvisor.com has picked Ripley’s Aquarium of The Smokies as the best aquarium in the United States. Consumer reviews, editor picks and traveler popularity were all used to determine the results.
Ripley’s Aquarium is located right in downtown Gatlinburg and is within walking distance of many hotels, condos and cabins. The attraction offers visitors a 1.4 million gallon aquarium that contains over 10,000 animals from the worlds oceans that represent some 350 species. One of the most popular attractions inside the aquarium is the shark tunnel, a 350 foot tunnel through the shark tank where visitors can see a multitude of sharks swimming above and around them.
Ripley’s also has an additional aquarium in Myrtle Beach SC and this was actually the first aquarium built by the Ripley company. Both aquariums have hosted more than 10 million visitors each since opening. Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg has done this a bit quicker since it as been open for 3 years less than the aquarium in Myrtle Beach.
TripAdvisor visitors love the Aquarium is Gatlinburg and this is the main reason it was voted as the number one in the nation. The Myrtle Beach location was voted 4 by TripAdvisor.
Ripley’s Aquarium Of The Smokies is open from 9am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and open till 11pm Friday and Saturday. The cost is $22.29 (why not just make it $22?) for adults, $12.25 for children 6 – 12 and $5.56 for children age 2 – 5.
