Visit The Great Smoky Mountains National Park On Your Next Gatlinburg Vacation

It’s hard to say whether Gatlinburg is a National Park attraction or if The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a Gatlinburg attraction, but whatever the reason for your visit to this area of the Southeastern United States, you will certainly enjoy vacationing in the National Park. There is so much to do here, you just might want to take a week or longer to see every thing.

The biggest attraction in the park is of course Cades Cove. It is a 10 mile loop road around a beautiful cove that is as serene as you could possible ask for.  You can drive, bike or even walk the loop road that features what life was really like back in the days of pioneers. The rustic homes, mills, farms, churches and cemeteries are about as basic as you can get, but you get a authentic sense of what it was like to live and exist when you have to do everything from build your own dwelling, to provide you own food and to secure your life and property from all threats, some of them very serious.

What I like about visiting Cades Cove is the completely back to nature experience with no phone lines, concrete buildings, no computers and nothing except the basic necessities of life. And if you get to the cove early in the morning or late in the afternoon at dusk, you have a very good chance of seeing some of the abundant wildlife that frequents this paradise.

Other attractions to the park include hiking some of the vast trails that crisscross the Smokies. There are more than 850 miles of trails within the park boundaries and they include some spectacular scenery for those willing to make the journey up the trails.

Camping is also available in numerous places throughout the park. Some include large campgrounds with nice amenities such as the one in Cades Cove and some include nothing but the bear necessities and are located high in the mountains. Another popular activity in the park is simply looking at the sights. There are plenty of spots to pull your car over and gaze down into vast gorges, deep valleys and breathtaking mountain vistas. There is a picture around every curve in the Smoky Mountains, so make sure your camera is ready.

There is something to offer nearly everyone that visits the Great Smoky Mountains National Park so, plan your visit and get here as soon as you can. And if you need a place to stay, check out the Top Cabin Rentals in the Smoky Mountains for some suggestions.
