Gatlinburg Tennessee

Gatlinburg Tennessee has been called the Southeast Vacation Capital, the Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains and a vacation paradise and all these superlatives describe what more than 30,000 vacationers every day call Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg is located in eastern Tennessee and borders the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Highway 441 runs right through Gatlinburg and right through the National Park connecting it with Cherokee, North Carolina.

With a population of only 3,800 people on most days there are as much as 10 times the amount of tourists in Gatlinburg as there are residents. With the city boasting nearly 11,000 hotel rooms there are all kinds of accommodations available. And of course, there are thousands of cabin rentals in close proximity to Gatlinburg.

With the town of Pigeon Forge just next door and Cades Cove and the National Park close you will probably never run out of activities to partake in. Some of the activities to enjoy are, hiking, fantastic shopping, golfing, mini golfing, camping, relaxing, bicycling, nature watching, whitewater rafting, go-kart riding, fishing, and just about everything else you can imagine. Are you tired yet?

Many people use Gatlinburg for home base as they explore all the wonders of the National Park just outside the city limits. Within Smoky Mountains National Park there are more than 850 miles of hiking trails for everyone from the avid hiker to the casual walker. Another popular activity insied the park is to visit Cades Cove. Cades cove receives more than 2 million visitors a year making it one of the most popular attractions for those that stay in Gatlinburg.

There are also many beautiful vistas to stop at in the park and take some great pictures. Many peple just enjoy driving around the park and doing this as an activity. There are many pull outs along the roads of the park where you can safely stop and take pictures.

Some people spend jusat a few days in Gatlinburg exploring all there is to offer and then some more adventurous individuals spend a couple week or more exploring every nook and cranny of Gatlinburg or the National Park. When you spend that much time here you can have a day of busy activity followed by a day of blissful rest in between.
